No layoffs or personnel changes in the company: City hall addresses protesting drivers
The spokesperson for the Yerevan Mayor, Hakob Arshakyan, has issued a statement on his Facebook page addressing the issue of drivers who protested today.
The post specifically states:
“Regarding this morning's 'bus' issue, Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan introduced Ruben Sargsyan as the acting head of the 'Yerevan Bus' company to the staff yesterday. The company operates 19 routes with approximately 180 buses. Additionally, there are around 70 unused buses in the company's yard. At the mayor's instruction, these will soon be deployed to supplement the list of routes serviced by the city hall. Until the full implementation of the new transportation system in the capital, new routes and vehicles will be involved.”
“Along with the addition of routes and the expansion of the company's functions, there will be changes in 'Yerevan Bus,' particularly in terms of technological upgrades and the recruitment of new staff.”
The planned changes in the company, particularly the change of director, have raised concerns among some drivers about worsening their working conditions. Hayk Marutyan assured the employees that there will be no layoffs or personnel changes in the company; their working conditions will not only remain stable but will also see improvements in regular working hours and compensation.”
“Nevertheless, this morning, several company drivers refused to go out on their routes, demanding the return of the previous director. However, by 9:00 AM, the regular operation of the routes was restored.”
