Fourfold Increase in Corruption Post-Revolution, Reports ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’

Since the Velvet Revolution, Armenia has seen a sharp increase in the detection of corruption-related crimes. This is reported by the daily newspaper ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’, which also presents statistics on corruption offenses during this period.

The paper has learned from the Statistical Committee that from January to October 2018, 431 cases related to bribery or intermediaries for bribery were initiated, compared to only 132 the previous year. Notably, only 88 of the cases initiated this year were uncovered during the rule of the Republican Party of Armenia between January and April, while the remaining 343 cases were revealed during Nikol Pashinyan's governance.

As for crimes of a corrupt nature in general, this year, 1,237 such cases have been filed compared to 515 the previous year. Of these, 857 cases have been uncovered following the Velvet Revolution.
