What Response Did the Armenian President Give to the Azerbaijani Student on the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict?
The President of the Republic, Armen Sarkissian, met with professors and students at Otto von Guericke University in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.
During the meeting, President Sarkissian also answered questions from the participants.
Responding to the question of an Azerbaijani participant regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, President Sarkissian stated:
“From a human perspective, it is a tragedy what has happened in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Nagorno-Karabakh. I do not wish to dwell on history. Armenia has a new government and a new constitution. I am the head of state, but I am not the head of government. Currently, Armenia is like Germany. According to the constitution, the head of government must negotiate with Ilham Aliyev. My role can be to provide advice.
I want to emphasize one important point: people have died not only in Azerbaijan but also in Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia. I believe we must do everything possible to create a fair and peaceful environment for solving this issue. Is it easy to achieve? No. But we must try to do so today, otherwise, you and our children will have to ask the same questions years later.
Therefore, it is time to resolve the issue.”
