Armenia Imports $195,000 Worth of Potatoes from Georgia

In the first half of 2026, potato exports from Georgia sharply declined. The country exported 18,414 tons of potatoes between January and June, generating an income of $4.879 million, according to Georgian media reports. This represents an 81.5% decrease compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, changes have occurred in the potato export markets from Georgia. While Russia was the primary market in 2025, this year Azerbaijan has taken the lead. Armenia is also among the markets importing Georgian potatoes.

In the first six months of 2026, Georgia exported $195,000 worth of potatoes to Armenia. Armenia is now among the countries importing potatoes from Georgia, albeit trailing behind several other markets.

The main export destinations for Georgian potatoes in the first half of this year were: Azerbaijan — 11,777 tons, $2.2 million; Russia — 3,422 tons, $1.4 million; Belarus — 2,126 tons, $942,000; Armenia — $195,000.

Georgian potato exports to Russia have particularly seen a sharp decline. From January to June 2025, Georgia exported 50,347 tons of potatoes to Russia, worth $20.5 million; in the same period of this year, only 3,422 tons were exported, valued at $1.4 million. This indicates a 92.9% reduction in export volume to Russia.

Overall, last year, Georgia set a record in potato exports. In the first half of 2025, the income generated from potato exports reached $26.5 million. In 2025, Georgia also exported potatoes to Kazakhstan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, but in the first half of 2026, exports to these countries have been zero.

Potato production in Georgia has also decreased. According to preliminary agricultural data, in 2025, 207.9 thousand tons of potatoes were produced in the country, which is a decrease of 6.1% compared to the previous year. Thus, amid a significant drop in the overall export volume of Georgian potatoes, Armenia continues to remain one of the markets for Georgian potatoes.
