Armenian Peppers Attempted to be Represented as Iranian: Trucks Blocked for 10 Days

A traffic jam consisting of trucks with Azerbaijani and Dagestani license plates has formed at the Astara customs checkpoint and cargo terminal, as reported by RIA Dagestan.

According to the Dagestan Ministry of Transport, the cargo is peppers grown in Armenia, which were supposed to be re-exported to Russia. However, it was revealed that Iranian intermediaries attempted to substitute the documents to present the product as Iranian.

Drivers from Dagestan have been waiting for a resolution for ten days. During this time, some of the peppers have started to spoil, as the shelf life is nearing its end. Transporters are requesting permission to unload the cargo, but intermediaries insist that the transportation be conducted without unloading.

The situation has been addressed by the representatives of the Dagestan Regional Public Automobile Transporters Organization. A request will be sent to the Iranian Ministry of Justice in the near future to clarify the procedure of actions and to obtain compensation for the forced downtime.

The Dagestan Ministry of Transport and Road Economy emphasizes that it is unacceptable to accept the transport of illegal Armenian products, as their importation into Russian territory is not permitted. The agency calls for strict adherence to legislation and to prevent actions that lead to downtime and spoilage of cargo.
