Zelensky Provides Details on Massive Attack on Kyiv Last Night

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reported that due to a shortage of interceptor munitions for the Patriot systems, the country’s air defense forces managed to shoot down only one missile during the nighttime assault on Kyiv.

According to the Ukrainian leader, on the night of August 1, Russia launched 35 missiles (27 of which were ballistic) and 185 various types of offensive drones toward the country. Due to the shortage of munitions designated for the Patriot air defense systems, only one ballistic missile was neutralized.

Zelensky noted on Telegram: “This very shortage of ballistic interceptor systems only encourages Russia to carry out such strikes.” He emphasized, “It is important that our partners hear that these resources are not needed in warehouses for potential scenarios, but here and now, so that the Russian war in Ukraine can be deterred and halted.”

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibihyan also stated that the country urgently requires additional air defense systems and interceptor missiles. “This is already the second similar mass strike in just two days. Having failed to achieve its objectives on the battlefield, Russia is intensifying airstrikes and terror against the civilian population,” Sibihyan reported, adding that the speed of decision-making and its implementation is crucial.

Recent reports indicate that the nighttime attack carried out by Russia on Kyiv on August 1 resulted in the deaths of 9 people, with more than 30 others injured.
