M-17 World Championships: Freestyle Wrestlers Enter the Ring in Baku
On July 31, the World Freestyle Wrestling Championships for athletes under 17 years old will kick off in Baku, where Armenia will be represented by six participants. The draw for the freestyle wrestlers has taken place, and the Armenian wrestlers now know their first opponents.
In the 51 kg category, Murad Gharibyan will start his competition in the qualification round against Kyrgyzstan's Nurdan Bodonoev. In the 55 kg category, David Baleyan's opponent in the qualification round will be the Polish wrestler Przemysław Mrożek. In the 60 kg category, Grisha Gevorgyan will face Kyrgyz representative Mirlan Nurmamatov in the round of 16.
In the 65 kg category, Erik Papikyan will compete against Azerbaijani Rapid Nazarov in his opening round of 16. Varuzhan Aslanyan, competing in the 71 kg category, will attempt to overcome Georgian Bogdan Kvandaliani in the qualification round. In the 80 kg category, Vache Aslanyan will battle against Russian wrestler Kantemir Elmesov in the round of 16.
On the first competition day, three wrestlers from the Armenian national team led by Arshak Hayrapetyan will step onto the mat: David Baleyan (55 kg), Erik Papikyan (65 kg), and Vache Aslanyan (80 kg). The preliminary matches will start at 10:30 AM Yerevan time.
