Age Limit for Military Educational Program Admissions Raised to 45

The age limit for admission to certain military educational programs in Armenia is set to be expanded to 45 years old. The draft government decision developed by the Ministry of Defense has been published on the unified website for the publication of legal acts.

Specifically, the draft proposes to raise the age limit for participating in military educational programs for commanders and deputy commanders of battalions, divisions, and squadrons from 37 to 45 years. The age limit set for another group under the admission process, currently at 40 years, is also proposed to be raised to 45.

According to the justification for the draft, the change is motivated by the need to form a professional armed force and develop military education. The new regulation will allow service members holding appropriate positions to participate in military educational program admissions at a higher age.

At the same time, the admission procedure for military educational institutions will be aligned with the law on 'Higher Education and Science' adopted in 2025. Specifically, military educational programs will be made to correspond to the first, second, and third levels of higher education.

The term 'postgraduate education' will be replaced with 'third level of higher military education,' which envisions education in military educational programs with the grant of an academic degree in the relevant field. Some programs will also include tactical and strategic qualifications.

In separate provisions of the admission process, female citizens will be mentioned along with service members. The procedure for appealing admission results is also expected to be clarified, stating that the decision can be appealed through judicial means.

The adoption of the draft will not require additional financial resources and will not lead to changes in the state budget. The decision will come into effect from the day following its official publication. Public discussions on the draft will continue until August 12.
