Former President of 'Ajaccio' Shot Dead During Mother's Funeral
Alain Orsoni, a political figure and former president of the Ajaccio football club, has been shot dead on the island of Corsica, France. The incident occurred during his mother's funeral ceremony, in front of numerous attendees. This information was reported by Le Parisien.
According to preliminary information, the assailant fired from a long distance using a rifle. Several shots were heard, resulting in the death of 71-year-old Orsoni. Traces of bullet casings were found at the scene, and his death was officially confirmed half an hour later. An investigation is being conducted by a joint team of police and gendarmerie.
Alain Orsoni has long been considered one of the most controversial figures in Corsican political life. In his youth, he had connections with far-right nationalist circles and, in 1980, was convicted for an armed attack on the Iranian embassy in Paris, spending two years in prison. He later became involved in the leadership of the Corsican National Liberation Front and founded the 'Self-Determination Movement' party.
In 1996, amid internal conflicts among Corsican nationalists, Orsoni left the island, residing in the United States and Nicaragua. Notably, Orsoni led the Ajaccio football club twice and served as a member of the board of the French Professional Football League.
