Macron Condemns US for Barring Former EU Commissioner Entry
French President Emmanuel Macron today condemned the United States' decision to bar former EU Commissioner Thierry Breton and four other European figures from entering the country.
On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the US has imposed entry restrictions on five activists for attempting to censor American platforms and speakers. Among them is Breton, one of the main architects of the European Union's Digital Services Act.
The former EU commissioner responded to the ban by questioning the return of McCarthyism in the United States, referencing a political climate from the late 1940s and mid-1950s aimed at combating leftist forces.
Earlier, it was reported that the US had barred several officials, including the former EU commissioner, from entering the country.
