OpenAI Sued Over ChatGPT User Suicides in the U.S.
Several American families have filed lawsuits against OpenAI, claiming that their loved ones took their own lives after prolonged interactions with ChatGPT. According to The Wall Street Journal, on Thursday, seven different lawsuits were filed in California courts, with plaintiffs stating that conversations with the chatbot have led to mental health disorders and delusions.
According to the claimants, some users began exhibiting dangerous behavior after intensive interactions with the chatbot, which, in some cases, resulted in suicide. The legal documents indicate that ChatGPT had a psychological impact on users, which may have indirectly contributed to tragic outcomes.
OpenAI has not yet officially commented on the incident. The company has previously stated that its products are designed for responsible and safe use, and that technical and ethical oversight processes continue to be implemented to prevent such occurrences.
