Georgia Refuses to Participate in Euronest Meeting in Yerevan
The Parliament of Georgia has decided not to participate in the 12th plenary session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, scheduled to take place in Yerevan from October 28 to 30. According to Sputnik Georgia, the official reason is linked to the behavior and statements of some MEPs.
Levan Makashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration, has addressed an open letter to the Euronest leadership, stating that a number of European parliamentarians have engaged in hostile rhetoric and participated in protests in Tbilisi. He emphasized that this contradicts the principles of mutual respect and parliamentary diplomacy.
Makashvili pointed out that the statements made by certain members of the European Parliament have led to public tension, radicalization, and manifestations of violence in Georgia. He added that some resolutions adopted by Euronest disregard the democratic choice of the Georgian people.
“By providing a platform for these individuals, Euronest encourages anti-democratic behavior and legitimizes a radical political agenda,” Makashvili stated in his letter.
