Ramiz Mehdiyev Accused of Attempting to Assassinate Aliyev and Seizing Power by Force
The former head of the presidential administration, Ramiz Mehdiyev, who is charged with particularly serious crimes such as state treason, attempted assassination of the President of Azerbaijan, an attempt to seize power by force, and money laundering, has activated his legal defense through his lawyers.
Mehdiyev's administrative office has filed an appeal against a series of court decisions that, in their opinion, are related to the political figure's house arrest. To prepare the appeal, the defenders have reviewed the materials of the criminal case launched by the state security service, as well as the decisions of the Sabail District Court made at the request of the state security service.
Special attention is paid to the court's decision from August 13, 2025, which permitted the implementation of complex operational and technical measures against Mehdiyev. According to observers, this decision has played a key role in the exposure of the former influential official.
Currently, 87-year-old Ramiz Mehdiyev is under house arrest. He and his close associates have refrained from public comments regarding the charges brought against them. It should be noted that Mehdiyev's family members are also under surveillance and are not allowed to leave the Republic of Azerbaijan.
