Control of the Zangezur Transport Hub Should Be Exclusively Under Armenia, Says Levon Ter-Petrosyan
Levon Ter-Petrosyan, the first President of Armenia, stated that he would avoid using the term "Zangezur Corridor" due to the concerns it raises within active segments of society. Instead, he believes it is more appropriate to refer to it as the "Zangezur Transport Hub."
"The control of the Zangezur Transport Hub should, of course, be exercised exclusively by Armenia under the force of sovereign rights. As for the political and economic objectives of other interested states, I am convinced that Armenia is capable of ensuring their uninterrupted activities in accordance with the requirements of international law.
In this matter, Armenia, willingly or unwillingly, expects the active cooperation of its strategic partners—Russia, the USA, and Iran—despite the apparent disagreements between them. Generally, contradictions among major powers are resolved more easily than those among smaller countries, which can be attributed to the maturity of the larger states involved. Evidence of this includes the resolutions of the Caribbean (1962) and Damansky (1969) crises, alongside the arms reduction agreements signed intermittently amid the competition of the superpowers, as well as their coordinated solutions during proxy wars, and so on," said Ter-Petrosyan.
