We Face Fundamental, Almost Historical Challenges: Merz
The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, believes that Europe needs to create a new security architecture and pursue a pragmatic foreign policy that is more aligned with German and European interests. According to TASS, Merz made this statement at the conference of German ambassadors taking place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany.
“What we used to call the liberal world order is now under pressure from many sides, including from within the political West,” Merz said. He noted that a systemic conflict has emerged between the axis of liberal democracies and autocracies, which are supporting each other while openly striving for competition.
According to Merz, new revisionist alliances are forming, and crises and conflicts are accumulating. “Thus, we are facing fundamental, almost historical challenges to create a new security architecture that, if everything goes well, will reliably survive for several decades,” Merz stated.
