Russia Emphasizes Prevention of New Escalation in Iran's Nuclear Program
Russia considers it important to prevent a new escalation regarding Iran's nuclear program, prioritizing the search for constructive dialogue between the parties and the prevention of new confrontations surrounding Iran's nuclear initiatives, stated the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We consider it crucial to prevent a new escalation regarding the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which, as demonstrated by the external aggression against Iran in June this year, would have severe consequences for international peace and security,” the ministry's statement reads.
The main issue today is the resumption of constructive dialogue among the involved parties and the focused collective search for solutions that will allow avoidance of a new crisis.
On August 28, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany informed the United Nations Security Council about the activation of the mechanism for restoring international sanctions against Iran that were canceled under the 2015 nuclear agreement. However, the sanctions do not come into effect immediately; a draft resolution regarding the continuation of their cancellation must be put to a vote in the UN Security Council. If such a resolution is not approved within 30 days, the sanctions will be reinstated.
