15 Aftershocks Recorded in Kamchatka Within 24 Hours
The aftershock activity continues in Kamchatka following the 8.8 magnitude earthquake. Scientists have registered 17 seismic events within a 24-hour period, as reported by the regional directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations to TASS.
"During the last 24 hours, 17 aftershocks have been recorded. Four people remain in temporary shelters," the agency reported.
Currently, there are seven active volcanoes in the region. Scientists believe that some of these may have been awakened due to the earthquakes.
Recall that on the morning of July 30, a powerful earthquake occurred off the coast of Kamchatka, the strongest since 1952. According to authorities, its magnitude reached 8.8. A high alert mode has been established in Kamchatka. The earthquake was also felt in Severo-Kurilsk, where a tsunami was triggered, with the maximum wave height reaching approximately 200 meters. The earthquake also generated a tsunami in the Pacific Ocean, with alerts issued by the authorities in Japan, the United States, and the Philippines.
