Court Reviews Request to Extend Samvel Karapetyan's Detention
The Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia is reviewing a request to extend the detention of businessman Samvel Karapetyan. Supporters of Karapetyan have gathered outside the courthouse.
It is important to recall that Samvel Karapetyan was detained on June 18 for a period of two months. He is accused of usurping power and making public calls for the violent overthrow of the constitutional order. Karapetyan denies the charges, and his defense team asserts that the accusations against him are baseless.
Karapetyan was detained following a statement in support of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Speaking to reporters outside the Anti-Corruption Court, Karapetyan's nephew, Narek Karapetyan, responded to questions regarding expectations from the court session, stating: "Since these are not legal processes but political ones, we cannot say that a decision will be made based on any particular logic. We will understand whether the judge will have the courage to stand against political pressures or not," said Narek Karapetyan.
