Ukraine Cannot Join the EU: Orbán
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has stated that the European Union should not accept Ukraine as a member, not only because Kyiv is unprepared but also due to potential consequences, particularly direct military confrontation with Russia. His remarks were quoted by TASS.
“We do not see signs of a modern Ukrainian economy being formed, nor do we see a desire to end the conflict. Imagine that Ukraine becomes an EU member today; this means the union is mechanically drawn into a war with Russia,” Orbán said during an interview on Kossuth Radio.
According to him, despite this, European leaders continue to claim at every summit that Ukraine fully meets the membership criteria—corruption has been overcome, the rule of law is ensured, human rights are respected, and the economy shows stability. Orbán believes these assessments are far from reality.
“Those who claim that Ukraine is ready for EU membership simply ignore the facts,” emphasized the Hungarian Prime Minister.
