Protesters in Brazil Burn Trump Posters
A vibrant protest against a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods took place in São Paulo. Demonstrators took to the streets chanting, "Respect Brazil" and "Brazil is ours." The protest was initially organized for a different cause; the protesters aimed to support the government's proposal to tax high-income citizens. However, the direction of the rally shifted as they began to voice their opposition to the imposition of tariffs on Brazilian products.
This shift came after Trump’s letter to Lula, in which he condemned the "witch hunt" against his predecessor, Bolsonaro, while simultaneously announcing new trade restrictions. The letter has further inflamed the growing public animosity between the leaders of the two nations.
