Lavrov-Rubio Meeting Held in Malaysia
The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio are holding a meeting in Malaysia. This was reported by RIA Novosti. The meeting is taking place within the framework of events organized by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The U.S. Secretary of State was the first to enter the negotiation room, followed by Lavrov. After both ministers took their seats around the table, journalists entered the room. Traditionally, representatives of the American press began shouting questions at the ministers, one of which pertained to the possibility of new sanctions against Russia. Hearing this, Rubio and Lavrov exchanged glances and shared a slight smile.
Previously, Lavrov and Rubio had held several telephone conversations, and they first met in person during Russian-American negotiations in Riyadh in February. During that meeting, both parties agreed to begin work aimed at normalizing bilateral relations.
