Official Crosses Border with Undeclared Vehicle
The Commission for the Prevention of Corruption required a situational declaration last year after noticing that an official had repeatedly crossed the border using a vehicle that had not been declared. This was reported by Mariam Galstyan, acting head of the Commission, during a joint meeting of the permanent committees of the National Assembly regarding the presentation of the report on the implementation results of the 2024 state budget.
Galstyan noted that this was the first time they had utilized the tool of requiring a situational declaration. “The case concerns a public official. We had seen that he regularly crossed the border with a vehicle that was not declared. In this context, we inquired about the ownership of the vehicle, and he stated that it belonged to his daughter. We had inquiries regarding the daughter because we reasonably suspected that the property belonged to him despite being registered in her name. We requested information about the daughter and required a situational declaration. We concluded that her legal income did not substantiate the acquisition of the property. Therefore, we believed that the daughter could not have acquired this property on her own,” Galstyan stated.
The Commission for the Prevention of Corruption has submitted a report based on this analysis to the Prosecutor's Office, and a disciplinary process is also underway.
