Over 120,000 Federal Employees Laid Off in the U.S.: CNN
At least 121,000 federal employees in the United States have been laid off since President Donald Trump came to power in January of this year, CNN reports.
According to data from Challenger, Gray & Christmas, a firm involved in staff management, the number of laid-off federal employees could reach as high as 280,000. The cuts have hit the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) the hardest. Following months of reductions, the State Department has officially announced the closure of USAID.
CNN's study is based on data from federal agencies, employee reports, internal documents, statements from government officials, and other media reports. However, the study does not factor in data regarding those who have been reinstated in their positions, those on administrative leave, or those who resigned voluntarily.
