Europe Hits Record High Temperatures as Researchers Warn
Europe has faced devastating storms and floods in 2024, impacting 413,000 people. According to a report on the state of climate in Europe, fossil fuel pollution has rendered the continent record hot. This was reported by The Guardian.
Last year, various countries across the continent witnessed cars stranded in waterlogged streets and bridges collapsed due to torrential flows. Approximately 30% of Europe's river network has been affected by 'high' floods, with 12% exceeding the threshold for 'severe' flooding.
The most catastrophic incidents were recorded in September, during flooding in Central Europe, and in October, when Eastern Spain experienced floods that resulted in over 250 deaths.
Previous studies have indicated that these disasters have become more intense and likely due to global warming. Researchers are strongly warning that countries need to take precautionary measures as soon as possible to protect themselves from floods and high temperatures.
