We Were Prepared for Snow in Advance: Areyan
We were prepared for snowfalls; all the equipment was prepared in advance. This was stated by Kamо Areyan, an advisor to Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, during a city hall operational meeting.
He noted that the fleet had also been prepared, with 38 specialized vehicles and mechanisms for snow removal and other various equipment mobilized.
“In total, there were 80 units of equipment, and over 300 sanitation workers participated in the cleaning efforts. We had sufficient salt and sand stored in advance, and during the days of precipitation, especially on the 22nd and 23rd, we continued to import materials from the salt plant and the sand quarry,” Areyan reported.
According to him, on the first day of snow on the night of the 21st to the 22nd, there were difficulties in the capital, especially on the uphill streets leading to the northern district.
“Everything possible was done to keep the city safe from difficulties; however, I must say that due to objective and subjective reasons, we experienced four hours of traffic jams and impassable streets. The reasons were the heavy snowfall and the sudden change in weather. Because of the snowfall, the equipment got caught in traffic and could not reach the streets on time. It would not be fair to say we were unprepared,” he added.
