Video: One of Georgia’s Polling Stations Closed – What’s the Reason?
One of the polling stations opened for the parliamentary elections in Georgia, specifically the 69th polling station in Marneuli, has been closed. This was reported by aliq.ge.
Prior to this, footage had been released showing a voter throwing ballot papers into the ballot box. Following this incident, observers demanded that the results of the elections in that area be annulled.
The individual who published the video indicated that the observers were initially subjected to physical violence and then expelled from the area.
It is noteworthy that the chairperson of the Central Election Commission has responded to the footage of the ballot stuffing in Marneuli, urging the Marneuli election commission to investigate the situation. “This is concerning information, and the administration will not allow such incidents to disrupt the efforts invested for months leading up to the election day. I would like to alert and request the Marneuli regional election commission to clarify the situation, convene a meeting, and make the appropriate decision,” he stated.
Recall that, according to the Central Election Commission, there will be a total of 3,111 polling stations serving voters, of which 3,044 are located within Georgia and 67 abroad. Deputies will be elected solely through a proportional representation system. Seats in the parliament will be allocated to political parties that exceed the 5% threshold. A total of 18 political parties/alliances are participating in the elections for the 150-member parliament of Georgia.
