Real Threats Are Emerging in the Region, Says Zakharova
The Russian Federation is deeply concerned about the ongoing explosive escalation between Israel and Iran. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing the official statement from the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"We are deeply concerned about the ongoing explosive escalation between Israel and the Islamic Republic, which poses real threats to stability and security in the region," the Foreign Ministry's commentary read.
According to the statement, it is evident that the fundamental cause of the aforementioned situation is the unresolved Palestine-Israel conflict, based on the well-known decisions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly, which constantly provokes rising tensions.
"We consider an urgent resolution of the military-political situation in the Middle East essential, which would satisfy the interests of all reasonable players both within the region and beyond its borders," Zakharova added.
On the night of October 26, Israel targeted Iran.
RIA Novosti, citing Fars, reported that the spokesperson for Iran's Civil Aviation Organization, Jafar Yazarlu, stated that flights had been canceled due to the strikes. He later mentioned that air traffic had been restored. "Air traffic returned to normal mode from 9:00 AM," Yazarlu said.
The Israel Defense Forces announced on the night of October 26 that they would strike military sites in Iran in response to attacks on the Jewish state on October 1. CBS News, citing its sources, reported that Israel's attack on Iran was limited to military targets and did not extend to nuclear or oil facilities.
The Fars news agency claimed that Israel targeted several military bases located in the west and southwest of Tehran, while Tasnim news agency reported that military centers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) located in the west and southwest of the Iranian capital were unaffected.
