Georgian President Struggles to Contact Interior Minister
Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili has announced that she is unable to establish contact with Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri to discuss the incidents that occurred during the parliamentary elections.
Zourabichvili released a video message expressing her concern regarding the situation. “I want to address the Interior Minister, with whom, unfortunately, I am unable to get in touch. My staff cannot connect with his deputy, and the government’s official line is also not functioning. I want to urge the Interior Minister to ensure that the police respond to incidents more swiftly and effectively,” Zourabichvili stated in her video address.
She has claimed to have evidence of violence occurring at various polling stations, deeming the presence of tension at voting sites unacceptable.
Earlier, Georgian media had released footage of brawls at several polling stations. In particular, altercations occurred between supporters of the ruling party and opposition members in two districts of Tbilisi.
It is noteworthy that 18 political parties are participating in today’s parliamentary elections in Georgia.
