42 Armenian Candidates in Belgium's Local Elections
On October 13, local self-government elections will take place in Belgium. Nearly all political parties in the Belgian political landscape have Armenian candidates on their lists.
According to a report from an Armenpress correspondent in Brussels, a total of 42 Armenian candidates have been nominated in the local elections, competing for seats on municipal councils. Notably, the overwhelming majority of these candidates are young individuals.
This enthusiasm stems from the results achieved by some Armenian candidates in the federal, regional, and European elections held in June. While they did not gather enough votes to win, the number of votes they received was significant.
The Armenian community in Belgium is one of the most integrated communities in the country’s economic and cultural life. The younger generation of this community has broken the century-old stereotype of staying away from politics and has decided to actively participate in political life.
The presence of 42 Armenian candidates in Belgium's local self-government elections is an unprecedented event for the community. According to polls, some of these candidates have chances of becoming members of the municipal council. Their aim is to make the community's concerns heard at the political level.
