City Hall's Decision Regarding the Earthquake-Affected 'Pit' School
Dear colleagues, I would like to inform you that classes at Hakob Oshakan Secondary School No. 172 were interrupted following the recorded tremors on September 6, and from the very next day, classes have been conducted remotely. During this time, specialized companies, as well as the relevant department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia, conducted engineering-geological and seismic stability studies.
As a result, it was determined that the construction works being carried out in the pit of the neighboring building cannot create new cracks in the load-bearing structural elements of the school building.
This was stated by Haik Kostanyan, the spokesperson for the Mayor of Yerevan, on his Facebook page. Earlier, Auroranews reported that classes at the more well-known 'pit' school were not being held in person, and the educational process was taking place remotely. The cause of the earthquakes and vibrations was mentioned to be the construction works taking place about 200 meters away from the school.
