Zakharova Comments on Mass Explosion of Pagers in Lebanon
The mass explosions of pagers in Lebanon, utilizing new technologies, represent an entirely new type of terrorism. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“This is an entirely new type of terrorism that combines such large-scale incidents with the use of such technologies, and it seems to have a civil orientation, yet it is applied for terrorist purposes,” Zakharova said during the Eurasian Women’s Forum.
In various regions of Lebanon, communication devices exploded on September 17 and 18, including pagers and radios. According to official data, 32 people have died and more than 3,000 have been injured. The cause of the simultaneous explosion of thousands of devices remains unknown. Hezbollah and Lebanese authorities have attributed the incidents to Israel.
