Hrayr Tovmasyan Found Guilty on Two Counts but Acquitted of Responsibility

The Constitutional Court judge Hrayr Tovmasyan was found guilty by the court on two counts of crimes under the first part of Article 308 of the Criminal Code, adopted on April 18, 2003, but was acquitted of criminal responsibility due to the statute of limitations having expired in 2019.

Judge Tatevik Grigoryan announced the verdict, stating, “The court decided to recognize the defendant Hrayr Tovmasyan guilty on two counts and to acquit him of criminal responsibility on the grounds that the statute of limitations had expired in 2019.”

The court ordered the confiscation of 5 million 203 thousand drams from Hrayr Tovmasyan as compensation for damages caused by the crime.

It is noteworthy that in his defense, Tovmasyan stated that it is essential for the state to see what others do not. “I have stood before the court only because I had the courage to voice what others did not see at that stage. I will not publicly say why I am here; my friends know. I am being judged precisely to see that. The history of mankind is full of such instances where a person saw such things, thought differently, spoke about it, and was judged for that,” he expressed.
