People Get Upset When iPhones Are Mentioned in Textbooks: Minister
There is a notion that our schools should have no connection with our reality. This was stated by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasian at a press conference.
"People get upset when iPhones are mentioned in textbooks, they get upset when we refer to contemporary music in textbooks. It seems like people are generally upset by everything. In reality, our schools should be close to life. Our children's lives cannot be about one thing, and our school be about something diametrically opposed. This has been one of the main issues in our education system, where schools have increasingly lost connection with children, making it extremely uninteresting for them to be in school," said Andreasian.
According to her, schools should communicate with children in a language that is understandable to them, utilizing that language to teach them the knowledge, values, and skills we need.
"Determining which material is appropriate to use, which text is suitable, is a professional task. People who have studied and become specialists in that field should draw conclusions and provide expertise, and based on those conclusions, we should decide whether the material is appropriate or not," she emphasized.
According to her, such conclusions have already been made, textbooks are already in schools, and they will also understand the feedback from schools and teachers. "If there is any need for revision, all the authors of our textbooks are in contact with schools and are organizing meetings and discussions. It is more important that we correct the gaps related to the quality of our children's education," she announced.
