Changes in the Champions League Format
Significant changes will be introduced in the Champions League for the 2024/2025 season. This information is reported by UEFA's official website.
Specifically, it is mentioned that starting this season, the Champions League will feature 36 teams, rather than the previous 32. In addition, previously the clubs were divided into groups of 4 teams each; now the Champions League will adopt the so-called Swiss system, where all 36 teams will be in a single ranking and each team will play 8 matches.
The teams ranked 1st to 8th will directly advance to the knockout stage. The remaining playoff spots will be contested by teams ranked 9th to 24th. The draw will be conducted automatically via a computer.
The final match of UEFA's Champions League for the 2024/2025 season is scheduled to take place on May 31, 2025, at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
