NATO Base in Romania to Quadruple in Size: Le Monde
In Romania, the area of NATO's Mihail Kogălniceanu base will quadruple following modernization efforts. This was reported by Le Monde, citing Romanian military sources.
According to them, the expansion of the base will include an additional runway, as well as more space for aircraft movement and parking. Moreover, the base will feature hangars, storage facilities, a new control tower, and 'an entire town' with hospitals and schools.
NATO troops and their families will be able to live in this town for much longer than is currently possible.
The publication notes that the base has become one of the alliance's 'most strategically important facilities' in light of the purported 'Russian threat'. From there, for instance, the Black Sea is monitored.
