The U.S. Expands Presence in the Middle East Through Naval Deployments: Austin
The U.S. administration is increasing its military presence in the Middle East, including sending aircraft carriers and destroyers, along with additional airpower. This was announced by U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
“To maintain our aircraft carrier strike group presence in the Middle East, I have ordered the USS Abraham Lincoln to be replaced by the USS Theodore Roosevelt this month. I have also ordered additional aircraft carriers and destroyers to the region, which can provide protection against threats. Furthermore, I have instructed to send an additional group of fighter jets to the Middle East,” he stated, adding, “This shift will enhance our existing capabilities in the region, and we maintain our readiness to deploy rapidly in response to threats.”
Austin noted, “The Department of Defense continues to take steps to reduce tensions in the region and avoid escalation from Iran and its partners.” He added, “We have reviewed our force posture to enhance their security, strengthen support for Israel’s defense, and be prepared to respond to unforeseen scenarios.”
