Macron Issues Warning to Iran's New Leader
The administration of France's leader has announced that Emmanuel Macron called Iran's new President Masoud Pezeshkian, urging him to cease support for Russia in its war against Ukraine. This was the first international call between the two presidents after Pezeshkian won the election and assumed the presidency.
The French president also called for 'doing everything possible to prevent a military escalation of the conflict between Israel and Lebanon' following recent rocket fire in the Golan Heights, which is attributed to Iranian-backed Hezbollah.
Since the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Iran has supported Kremlin actions and, according to Kyiv and its Western allies, has sent weapons to Russia, including Shahed-type drones.
The new Iranian president has expressed his intention to normalize relations with the West.
