Video: Cause of Mass Fish Deaths along Caspian Sea Coast Identified in Azerbaijan
The cause of mass fish deaths along the coast of the Caspian Sea in Baku, Azerbaijan, has been identified as a decrease in oxygen levels in the water, stated Firudin Aliyev, head of the Biodiversity Protection Service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. This news was reported by RIA Novosti.
Earlier, footage had circulated on social media showing a large number of fish dead along the Caspian Sea coast near the villages of Govsan and Turkan.
"Ministry employees have inspected the area and collected water and dead fish samples. There were no cases of infection, poisoning, or external physical effects discovered. It has been determined that due to the high temperature of the water, the dissolved oxygen levels dropped to 2.2-2.5 mg/L at a rate of 6 mg/L, which caused the fish to die," the environmentalist noted.
