It is Known Why Erdogan Canceled His Visit to Occupied Shushi
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has canceled his participation in the Turkic States Organization summit to be held in the occupied city of Shushi, Artsakh Republic. The reason for this decision is his intention to personally attend the European Championship quarter-final match between Turkey and the Netherlands on July 6 in Berlin. This was reported by Turkish A Haber television, citing TASS.
The television explained that this decision was made, among other reasons, due to a scandal involving national team player Merih Demiral. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has launched an investigation into the Turkish footballer for showing a well-known gesture associated with Turkish nationalists, the "Grey Wolves", during the game.
A Haber noted that Erdogan will arrive in Germany to "boost the morale of Turkish citizens after this incident and to show that he stands with them." No official statement regarding Erdogan's plans has been made so far.
Earlier, it was reported that Erdogan was supposed to attend an unofficial summit of the Turkic States Organization in the occupied city of Shushi on July 6.
