Zelensky Signs Law on the Use of English in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed Law No. 9432 regarding the use of the English language in the country, which was approved by the Rada in early June. This information was reported by RBC-Ukraine, referencing the Rada's website.

According to the parliamentary website, the law was returned to the Rada today, June 26, with the president's signature. As noted by the site, Volodymyr Zelensky presented the bill on the use of English to the Rada a year ago. The parliament approved the initiative from the head of state in its second reading only on June 4 of this year.

The document proposes that English be granted the status of one of the international communication languages in Ukraine. According to the law, officials, contract-serving military personnel, mid and senior police officers, and others in Ukraine will now be required to know English. It is noted that language proficiency will be tested through a free examination organized by the Ministry of Education and Science.
