US Secretary of State Speaks with Aliyev and Calls for Action
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has had a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, during which he emphasized the importance of swiftly concluding a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was reported by the State Department's press service.
Blinken reiterated that the United States is ready to support further communications in any format that is beneficial to the parties involved.
"The Secretary specifically focused on Azerbaijan's fulfillment of its international obligations regarding the protection of human rights, strongly advising the release of all unlawfully detained individuals," the statement read.
Blinken highlighted the significance of constructive cooperation with Azerbaijan in achieving common climate and energy goals. He also mentioned that the US is prepared to provide organizational support for the successful conduct of the COP29 conference.
He called for the need to "refresh and strengthen" bilateral relations between the United States and Azerbaijan.
