Preparations for Demarcation and Delimitation in Gegharkunik: The Governor Meets with Local Representatives
The newspaper "Hayjoghout" reports that recently Gegharkunik Governor Karen Sargsyan held a meeting with various representatives of the region. Heated discussions took place during which Sargsyan announced that the work on the demarcation and delimitation of Gegharkunik Province would begin soon.
It should be noted that Azerbaijani armed forces established themselves in Gegharkunik as of May 12, 2021. They crossed into the territory of the Republic of Armenia in the area of Lake Sevan in Syunik Province and subsequently positioned themselves in the areas of Verin Shorzha and Kut of Gegharkunik Province.
Sargsyan assured that the territories currently occupied by Azerbaijani forces would be reclaimed and that the region would be liberated. He indicated that he would personally oversee the demarcation process in the province, stating he would be fully aware of all data and actions, and assured that there was nothing to worry about.
According to the governor, Azerbaijan would retreat without any problems. However, despite the governor's optimism, the neighboring but not-so-friendly Azerbaijan has been making aggressive statements. Specifically, President Aliyev has repeatedly stated since the 2020 war that his troops would not withdraw, while simultaneously making demands for the appropriation of new territories from Armenia, considering all of the Republic of Armenia's territory as part of Azerbaijan and calling for changes to Armenia's Constitution.
The newspaper "Hayjoghout" attempted to ask the governor where he derives his confidence that everything will be to the liking of Gegharkunik residents. "I have always had meetings with residents, but I don't recall discussions on that topic," Karen Sargsyan said.
It turns out that Sargsyan's confidence and assurances that everything will turn out well and without issues are unfounded, as Aliyev himself throws stones daily at the peace process.
