Zakharova on the Current Situation in Armenian-Russian Relations
Many want to undermine the relationship between Yerevan and Moscow, and they have done much to damage it, but Russia has done everything to make these attempts futile. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during a press briefing addressing the current situation in Armenian-Russian relations.
According to her, the relationship with Armenia and the Armenian people has always been a priority for several reasons, including historical, economic, and geopolitical factors. "These relations have always been built on the principles of equality, mutual consideration of interests, and an understanding of the situation in the region," said Zakharova.
She noted that sometimes inadequate and extremely offensive statements directed at Russia, as well as destructive measures aimed at disrupting bilateral ties, primarily affected the people of Armenia, undermining regional security and stability. This stability has been sacrificed by many individuals both in Armenia and in other countries, including the lives and fates of numerous Russian citizens, military personnel, and border guards.
"We will carry our relationships out of any crisis into which they have repeatedly tried to plunge them by irrational minds that seem to either not think about anything or simply think about money or their own ambitions," she added.
The diplomat assured that Russia will always be a friend to Armenia and will develop relations as it is a matter of the peoples, of the two countries, rather than specific, exceptional individuals who occasionally appear in the political landscapes of different countries.
