Rescue Efforts Underway for Nearly 20 People After Bridge Collapse Following Ship Collision in the US
A rescue team is attempting to pull nearly 20 individuals from the water who may have plunged into the Patapsco River due to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, after a vessel collided with it. This has been reported by the city's fire department to CNN.
“Unfortunately, as we understand, there may be up to 20 people in the river, as well as several vehicles,” firefighters stated.
A team of divers is conducting search and rescue operations, but the weather conditions are extremely unfavorable.
Earlier reports indicated that the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, had collapsed following the collision with a ship. Local media outlets are covering the incident.
Traffic in both directions is closed. Footage has captured the moment the vessel struck the bridge, leading to its collapse.
