The Cathedral of the Mother of God of St. John is Targeted by Azerbaijani Vandals
Another act of vandalism has been recorded in the occupied Stepanakert. This time, Azerbaijani vandals have targeted the Cathedral of the Mother of God of St. John in Stepanakert.
This information was provided by Hayk's cultural ombudsman, Hovik Avanesyan.
“The consecration ceremony of the Cathedral of the Mother of God of St. John was performed by His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, on April 7, 2019. According to Article 4 of the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, any acts of vandalism, theft, pillaging, appropriation, enmity, and retribution against cultural heritage are prohibited. The first protocol of the Hague Convention of 1954 prohibits the destruction of cultural or spiritual values in occupied territories,” he wrote.
