Residents Block Road in Jrahovit Village
Residents of Jrahovit village in the Ararat region blocked the village road today. In an interview with Aysor.am, resident Jemma Hovhannisyan stated that after the government decision on the amalgamation of communities, Jrahovit and Arevabuyr communities are to have one school. The school is to be built in the central area of the two villages.
“We were informed about this last May, and the construction of our kindergarten was halted because the school is supposed to be demolished. According to the government's decision, one strong, large school must be built between the two villages. Our school accommodates 500 students and, since its construction in 1975, it has also received students from Arevabuyr for secondary education since their school was only 8 years,” she noted.
According to the resident, the Ararat regional administration has a colluding relationship with the leadership of the Arevabuyr community and is now conspiring against them to build the school not in between the two villages but right in Arevabuyr: “Why are they bypassing the government decision? It will be more than 2 km away from our village. They want to bypass the government decision using their connections. They want to annul the old contract, announce a new competition, and do as they please.”
Jemma Hovhannisyan mentioned that the area where they want to build the Arevabuyr school is swampy; a few years ago, construction was halted after realizing the ground was a marsh: “Our demand is that the school must be built in the center of both villages. We want to inform the Prime Minister and the government that the regional administration is fabricating such conspiracies with the community.”
After blocking the road for the school construction, the residents of Jrahovit later reopened it, while the administrative leader went to the regional administration to discuss the issue.
