Why Russians Have Started to Leave Antalya en Masse
Russians have begun to leave the Turkish city of Antalya en masse due to rising prices for renting and purchasing real estate. This was reported by the local newspaper Posta, as conveyed by Lenta.ru.
In January 2023, the country's authorities tightened checks on applications from foreigners for tourist residence permits. This led to a partial exodus of Russians and other foreigners from the region.
“To curb the rise in apartment and rental prices in Antalya, 10 neighborhoods have been closed to foreigners, and those whose residence permits have expired in other neighborhoods have not been renewed. As a result, Russians have started to emigrate to other countries. Over the past year, the number of foreigners living permanently in Antalya has decreased by 40,000,” the newspaper reports.
Overall, by January 2024, more than 54,000 Russians with residence permits left Turkey.
