Phones, Cutting Objects, Alcohol and Drugs Seized in Prisons during Holidays
The head of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia, Justice Colonel Ambakum Grigoryan, issued a directive for enhanced security measures in all penitentiary institutions from December 25 in relation to the New Year holidays.
According to the order from the service chief, the staff of the penitentiary institutions, in collaboration with relevant units of the central body, implemented various measures that resulted in the seizure of 142 mobile phones, 131 mobile phone accessories, 9 Wi-Fi devices, 10 cutting and stabbing objects, 153 liters of alcoholic beverages, and various types of drugs, including substances weighing a total of 9.4 grams resembling narcotics and 84.5 tablets during pre-holiday attempts to smuggle items in and from residential zones.
As a result of the enhanced service measures, no incidents were recorded in the penitentiary institutions on holiday and non-working days.
