Zhanna Andreasian on Raising the Issue of Yerevan State University Rector's Resignation

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasian, believes that the incident at Yerevan State University (YSU) does not warrant raising the issue of the rector, Hovhannes Hovhannisyan's, resignation. She made this statement during a press briefing after a government session.

“I do not think that we should raise such a question due to an unfortunate incident. First, we need to clarify what happened and what the main cause was. If it occurred due to someone's failure to fulfill their work duties, we should pursue that,” the minister stated.

According to Andreasian, investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the fire, and several hypotheses are being discussed. “I think it would be prudent to wait for the professional conclusions,” she said, adding that fortunately, the fire was extinguished quickly, and no major issues arose.
