“We are now under the direct threat of an invasion of Armenia”: Tigran Balayan
Armenia anticipates an invasion from Azerbaijan "within weeks." This was stated by Tigran Balayan, the Armenian Ambassador to Belgium and head of the Armenian representation in the EU, in an interview with Brussels Signal, noting that "the capitulation of Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan will be followed by an attack on Armenia itself."
“We are now under the direct threat of an invasion of Armenia. There will be nothing to stop Azerbaijan if it does not 'collide with the so-called practical steps taken by the 'collective West,'” said Balayan, emphasizing that Azerbaijan's promises to respect international law are empty, and that the claims against Armenia's internationally recognized territories are a bluff.
The ambassador pointed out that there are practical measures that the EU can take to counter Azerbaijan and Aliyev. Balayan proposed that the EU set a deadline for Aliyev to withdraw his military from the Armenian border. If not fulfilled, the visa-free agreement with Azerbaijan should be suspended. He also stressed that individual sanctions could send a clear message.
